I have an adult site with content for paid viewers. I have designed, and up loaded the video files 5mb to 12mb in size. I have them in WMV, Quicktime, and in Realvideo formats.
What I want is to have my clients click which format they want on the icons I provide or links, and have the video player pop up and start playing the video as it downloads.
The problem is, or I dont understand is. When the click the link will it automaticly open and start playing as it downloads, or will it wait to down load the whole file first then play it. I do not want to have clients download the whole file and wait. I like to have it start when it starts to download.
1) How do I code this and also, embed this?
2) Can you show me an example of the code?
3) What is the name of this type of downloading, it is not real streaming, I know that much. Is it progressive downloading.
I have the design done, and links down, files loaded, just do not know the code, and if it will start playing as it downloads.
You can read the documentation from the vendors on how to run video on a web site. The question you're asking doesn't have a short answer...it is a little complicated. I sell a software product to display video on a web site. It took some significant research and testing to make it work correctly.
Streaming video looks similar to progressive download to the web site visitor but they aren't the same.
Progressive download allows the video to start playing as it is being downloaded in the background. Progressive download can be down from any web server.
Streaming video requires a streaming video server. The streaming server automatically adjust the video quality of the video based on feedback information received from the client regarding the actual bandwidth that is available. Streaming servers work better in high volume video environments. The one downside to streaming video (besides the cost of having to run an extra server with specialized software) is that it tends to not work well when the customer's PC or Mac is behind a firewall (much more common now with home networking) because the feedback information may be blocked.
