Have you tried restarting the httpd service on its own via SSH?

When all else fails you could try and recomplie apache from WHM or try a /scripts/upcp --force.

Finding another host isn't going to help, the DOS will just follow you to your new hosts..

What you need to do is get some Anti-DOS software installed.

APF? i don't think this is help.
i used to with Ev1, they are using fireslayer to protect their servers. but still down again and again. after that, i changed my domain name and moved to LT, now is being attacked again.

There is different software other than APF.. I'm trying to remember the name of it. I will get back with you when I do It's free also, and mitigates quite well.

I don't know if you have made your decision to change hosts but I think you can fix your problem.

Apache when it complains about this error usually has some invalid syntax in httpd.conf

If you do a quick parse of your log for httpd you will probably see a more detailed error. You are getting the error during startup, so I can't agree that it is 100% ddos related.

My httpd logs these specific errors to /var/log/messages, your's may be setup differently.

Also trying to answer your dos question, using apf and bfd with apf works very well to stop ddos from causing damage to your system, what it cannot do however is take the place of a hardware ddos system that mitigates the threats on a network level before they ever begin to use your system resources.

iptables even if it is dropping packets from an IP must inspect these packets to see if it is dropping them, thus a ddos against a software based firewall could prevent your server from being reached.
