    mysqldump --compatible=mysql40 -u username -ppassword dbname > /path/to/the/backup/location.sql

But that's only to go backwards. There's no need for the compatibility option going up. At least that's what I understand. Could be wrong.

shouldn't it be mysql41 instead of mysql40 seeing that i am backing up the db from 4.0 and will restore it to 4.1 also i think you missing the --all-database please correct me if i am wrong anyone.

Or, if i understand correctly your saying there shouldn't be a problem just backing up normal and from 4.0 and restore to 4.1 as there is no need for compatible going up only down?

You don't have to put that one in compatible mode, just backup and restore. You're "upgrading" to a newer version.

I was just showing you an example of how it's used. but as i said, you don't need it. you're going up not down

Can't get CREATE TABLE for table `table_name` (Can't open file: 'table_name.MYI'. (errno: 145))

I am getting the above error when run mysql dump, anyone experience this before.
