they should wedge another banner on the left to center content. I feel like everything is pushed to the left now.
Patron: I'd like my free lunch please.
Cafe Manager: Free lunch? Did you read the fine print stating it was an April Fool's joke.
Patron: I read the same way I listen, I ignore the parts I don't agree with. I'm suing you for false advertising.

might as well make DHTML floating skyscaper on the left and right, then two horizonals on the bottom.
Then we could have a perfectly centered display somewhere along the area of 600x400
Then make the table sizes all 100% the same, so even on a large display you are locked in to a small viewing area with scaling banner ads in flash that are unblockable and take up the whole screen, save this small "viewing area"0

It appears there are a few for and many against this, so I have added a poll. If you need another option added, give us a hoy.

Guess I'll start us off
One question: difference between "I don't like it!" and "Back to the drawing board!" is what? Surely the former implies the latter?Alasdair

This is dreadful, I really hope iNet realise how much this will impact them in terms of long time members. I really don't have the time to sit and scroll past adverts, I personally thought the balance here at WHT was very good, hence it was a successful forum.
Take HostBidder.com, for example, it was a fantastic up and coming forum, until it was taken over and plastered with adverts - it hasn't moved forward since.
Fair enough if iNet want to make money, but I'll be getting off the bandwagon unless they find a better way to do it.

Opening up more advertising inventory, is just annoying the vast majority of your members and devaluing the existing ad spots. You've created a lose - lose scenario, instead of a win - win scenario.

Now get out the premium memberships again to remove the adds ;-)
Hey, I just had a vision. Assume the adds stay. How about going once more a step back ?
Leave the adds there !! Anyone who wants to emove them goes for the premium membership and there we are back again ;-)
Everybody can decide democratically for himself if they give WHT the few bucks or watch adds ;-)
I would cut the skyscarper into 4 smaller adds like googles sponsored links. Its just easier to sell those spots.
That would be a win-win situation which might be acceptable for everybody.
Anybody from WHT's business section reading this ?
I personally hate adds, but got used to happily ignoring them. ;-)
Perhaps somebody can develop a browser toolbar to put the competitions adds with CSS on top ;-) .
Now that would create a revenue stream ho ho ho ....
I just imagine now adds for computer parts, football tickets or certain magazines ;-)
or how about a dedicated WHT adds filter proxy service (ASP) ?
Just a few thoughts ...Last edited by valentin_nils; 11-11-2006 at 09:17 AM.

It's a shame that there are still no top banner or skyscraper ads available for purchase at my iNet.

Not to mention, a signature that was 4 lines long before can now be 6-7 lines long.

There isn't a "NEED" to add a 3rd banner here. It's not like WHT isn't making money for you hand over fist, CLEARLY more money than you need to operate WHT. There is a DESIRE to add a 3rd banner here, so you can force your users to view them, so that you can disturb your users and interrupt their viewing. This was NOT a wise move by whoever decided to go through with this, then again, neither was the intellitext crap.
This, however, is what happens when you sell a cash cow to greedy individuals who just want to make more money. They don't care about how WHT looks, how WHT feels for the members, they simply do as they please, and damn the rest. Clearly the majority vote (like it'll be listened to) is that it's junk.Tom Whiting, WHMCS Guru extraordinaire

Disgusting....thats the best way to sum it up, is this a community? or an advertising site?
iNet seems to be drifting towards the latter as if it was a community then the users who make / have made WHT what it is would have been consulted first.
The general opinion seems to be for every 1 person who likes it you have 9 who dont, now ok, so far only 30 people have voted but do the maths:
149,204 Members
At the above ratio thats:
14,920 who like it.
134,284 who dont like it.
And thats not including guests.
Lets see where iNet's prioritys lie.
At the very least you should give premium members an option to turn the sidebar off, maybe some form of javascript where we could expand/collapse the sidebar.0

Of course, that's probably why they stopped selling "premium membershps", they don't want individuals to be able to hide their poorly designed plans any more.Tom Whiting, WHMCS Guru extraordinaire

Shops don't renovate to please their existing client base. They do that to entice new business. Existing customers are already in the door, and even if some might find the new paintjob so terrible that they have a whinge and start shopping around, they'll certainly be back if they don't find what they need elsewhere. Is there another webhosting marketplace to compete with WHT?
