New WHT layout [merged]
Was this just changed?
I don't like this at all, really cuts back the space when posting and everything looks crowded.0

Even more annoying is it pushes the bottom New Reply button all the way to the bottom of the PM box. Looks like somebody b0rked a template

I really had to scroll down to reply to this thread, since there are not that many posts and the huge leaderboard ad takes up all that unnecessary room. I'm all for increasing advertising revenue, but must it come to this?

Looks like it's a permanent feature. Maybe they can add an option with Premium Membership to hide it from view? It scrunches everything up pretty badly .

I understand having it for people who have not yet registered, but not members at all. It just looks so bad - and may turn some people away.

I don't think it'll detract from the community that much, but it really does scrunch everything up. There has to be a more logical solution to increase advertising revenue (if that's what it's for) than this, because it really is rather cumbersome.
On the bright side, it does make my posts look a helluva lot longer.0

Well, I would assume this has done nothing further degrade the already pathetic performance of wht by bringing more load to the ad servers.
Who actually needs access to their pm box from a post?Steven Ciaburri | Industry's Best Server Management - Rack911.com

For the first time that I have seen, there are four iNET Interactive members on WHT right now. I hope one of them could give us an update with this.
EDIT: Now there are three.Ryan Smith0

We added a sidebar to WHT today to satisfy a few needs. The biggest of them is that banner advertisement positions are always getting sold out to sponsors. There is a need to add a 3rd banner (the skyscraper) to increase available ad positions. We put the existing HostingCatalog position that was always in the sidebar on the WHT front to the new sidebars also to give those host advertisers more exposure.
Since the vast majority of people the visit WHT in a 30-day period are non-members (and so they're not logged-in, nor do they ever become members), we added the vBulletin log-in box to the top of the sidebar to raise membership awareness and encourage people to log-in (a "become a member" link is going to be added shortly to the log-in module).
If you're logged-in to WHT (and, remember, most people never are or do), the log-in box becomes the private messages module. We're going to take a look at building some logic into the sidebar to hide the PM box in forum and thread sidebars if you're logged in.
Most people (the huge majority of people) visiting the site, are at a screen resolution of over 1024 wide. Of the top 500 screen resolutions that visited WHT in 2006 so far, less than 5% of visitors have been at 800 pixels or less wide (and who are the 230 people that are browsing WHT at 240x160?). Most visitors (~85%) have a screen resolution of 1024 wide (and over 40% of all users have a screen resolution over 1200 pixels wide). Since WHT is stretched to 100% of the browser, most folks will see an uncompressed forum and the content at a good width.
Thanks!

I think this will cause issues now.
Think about signatures and how some people stretch their text all the way to the end of the line. They will now have to shorten theirs.

If your concern is profit, could you give us members a chance to purchase some ability to turn off the display of ads, as well as this sidebar all together?

This is horrible. Very annoying, it scrunches everything up. Just shows all that is wanted is profit profit profit...don't really care about what the members who make the site think.

By PM box I assume you mean just the PM box and not the ad blocks as well?

Wow, this is bad. No community consultation, before radically altering the display, and all for a stinkin' skyscraper banner.
