It says my house is worth 217k.

    It's actually worth over 500, it's what I paid.

It appears it references taxation/county property assessment records, as opposed to the valuation you get from an appraiser. The numbers may be similar, or they may be very different.

It's ~$30k under the actual value on both my old home and my new home, and that values it gives are right in line with our tax records. It's neat, because it gives you a comparison tool between properties, but don't take away too much meaning from the actual number.

Same for my house. This tool is genius. People just keep coming up with great things.

You can usually go to your local assessors website and see the same thing, plus additional information. www.netronline.com is a good site that has links to all the assessor websites.

My old house in chicago says worth 450,000.

Apparently less than mine There's a site in the UK that offers the actual selling price ~3-6 months after a house sells, and apparently the one next door sold above what it was on the market at as well. Happy thoughts

That'd be 'In England...'. You got me all excited about finding out how unlikely it is I'd be flooded, and the site only does England and Wales

There is apparently one planned for Scotland (http://www.sepa.org.uk/flooding/floodmap/index.htm) but it isn't ready yet for online searching and what not.

Damn dude! My wife and I just spent $184k on almost the exact same size house, less than 10 years old, on 1/4 acre in a subdivision in Northeast Ohio. You could sell your house, buy mine almost six times over and live in a white picket fence neighborhood in the burbs

An expensive house around us (acres of land, 5,000+ sq. ft., major amenities) might go for $750k - $1m. The absolute most expensive properties might go for $5-10m tops.

Another for England and Wales is http://www.houseprices.co.uk/

Looking at prices for similar houses along our road they go for about £350,000 ($665,000). Ours is one of the smaller ones along the road, most have one more bedroom. We got a smaller house but a longer private drive. The bigger ones are going for about £450,000 just for that one extra bedroom!

I'm at risk from "Flooding from rivers or sea without defences", would have thought that I'd be at risk of "extreme" flooding seeing as the thames is 500 metres to the west, and another adjoining river is about 150 metres to the south.

yup, but the cool thing on this is that you can see all the homes in a neighborhood at once!

Down here in San Diego I can only dream to purchase a $800,000 average house. Heck my apartment monthly lease rate is probably the average home mortgage per month lol
