    Site too slow on VPS

    Hi,

As few of you here know I have been searcing for fast and reliable hosting. Finally I settled for a VPS with one of the leading hosting company.

I have configured and created a couple of sites on my new VPS. Now my problem is both these sites are terribly slow !!!

As per my preliminary call with tech support everything looks good on my server. I would like to know the areas which I need to explore before getting in touch with the technical support again.

In general, how do you start your diagnosis, when you think that your site, which is setup on a VPS is running very slow?

I am new to setting up a VPS and this is my first. Coming to hosting company, it is one of the top rated host by many on WHT.

    Please help.

First check the network speed by downloading a largish file.

If this is ok then its time to look at your vps.

how much free ram, is it using swap.

    Some commands:

    top -s
    vmstat 5 5
    free
UK SSD VPS without compromise - upto 250k IOPS !

    thanks for the reply.

my internet connection is fast enough I can say that by accessing a few other sites and doing some downloads.

Also FTP to my server is not so fast. No other process or site is setup on my server

You can benchmark your server to check if there is any lack of performance:

You can check /proc/user_beancounters and look for failcnts

You can download something from an external server to your server
