    Your preferred IM application?

Which is your favorite instant messaging service? I personally use AIM just because everyone does and it's convenient to also obviously, I don't have too much experience with anything else.

I don't know anyone who uses AIM, or in fact any client other than MSN (Windows Live) Messenger.

Yup - I love it. None of the crap that comes with AIM and you can use it for AIM/ICQ/Yahoo/MSN. Plus, you can get a nice encryption plugin for it for secure conversations.

Trillian is decent too, but it's a little overly-complicated for my taste, I like a simple interface with all the features I need and none that I don't, which it doesn't have.

    Also, I despise AIM Triton.

I've used them all and I think AIM is the best (I'm not including multi-protocol apps here, sucks as trillian and GAIM)

Well not everyone uses all of those services, I personally basically just use AIM, and maybe Yahoo and MSN if I'm on my phone, just because I can haha

I'm a fan of Miranda IM. A very nice lightweight client (uses I think 2MB of RAM on my computer) and you can use aim/icq/msn/yahoo/irc and maybe other things by now. Do a search on google, or check out miranda-im.org.

MSN definitely, cause everyone is on MSN.

Windows Live Messenger really sucks though. It takes up so much memory, is so slow and is full of bugs. I hate it :@

Trillian which lets you have AIM, Yahoo, MSN and ICQ up simultaneously with multiple logins.

I use only MSN. By the way, with the new Live messenger you can also put your AIM account in and it will use it too.

I made a big change to the way I use these though. First off I NEVER use IM for support. I can't even imagine getting messaged everytime someone has a question. it would overwhelm my time. So I started a new account, closed the old one, and only allow personal friends on my list. SO much nicer. I had over 200 people in my contact list before and it was just way too much. I never did offer IM support, but lots of people just ended up on the list.

Anyway, always been partial to MSN. but again, I don't provide support through IM so there isn't really any reason to have all the other accounts.

I do still have a low number ICQ (943123) but I don't use it either.

EDIT: looks like someone horked my ICQ number. great!

I use AIM, Yahoo IM, MSN and GoogleTalk. AIM is by far my favourite.

Trillian Pro for AIM/YIM, Windows live Messenger for MSN, and Google's thing for GTalk (yes, I know I could use trillian for them all - but I prefer the others)

I use Trillian Pro as my primary client. I have also dabbled with Gaim.

I actively use ICQ, AIM, MSN, and Yahoo

ICQ is my primary service as I have had it the longest. My uin is < 500000. I'm an old timer.

    Hands down, Trillian.
I've used a number of them on any number of platforms (Windows, Linux - gaim, kopete, trillian, etc), and always keep coming back to trillian.
Trillian is the only one I know of that I can put onto my U3 and take anywhere, keeping conversation logs, history, attachments, etc. Unplug it, put it in another computer, and I'm back up and running again. Need to reformat ? Once Windows is up, I'm back up and running again with trillian on the u3, no sweat.

    MSN (Windows Live) Messenger.

The new version of GAIM crashes now when it gets to the cookie stage for me . Think I will need to do a google search for a fix on the problem.

I like AIM but first I need to use AimAdHack to slim down and remove all the stupid stuff from AIM. I also have Skype but I rarely use it. I am very fond of IRC but I'm not sure if you would consider that a messenger.

I use Trillian basic and would not go with anything else. What is so much better in the Pro version? I've never even looked at it.
