Monitoring tool for LOCAL services (bare linux)
Someone knows where to find a monitoring tool for local(!) services under linux boxes?
Something simple similar to checkserv from cpanel.
Thanks in advance!
Nagios would work. Not nearly as easy to set up though.
Thanks for your reply!
I know about nagios but I need something simple only for local services.
I'm not good with perl but I'm looking for something like:
ps aux|grep servicename
if nothing's found
then do service restart or /path/to/script - via cron
Oh, I'm sorry I must have misinterpreted that. I thought we were talking about local (as in network local) boxes. And that wouldn't help much - the service could be hanging or having some other issue and still be showing up in the process list. You would want something that would actually check the integrity of the service.
Currently I have SIM for network services but it's not working on local ones because it checks for a listen port
The script I'm talking about will do the job for me.
It seems a '*' instead of port do the job for local services with SIM.
I'm not sure if its what you're after, but you could look at monit.
I have a bit of a love hate relationship with it, but it does seem to work.
