ixWebHosting vs DreamHost

I'm looking for a new host. I am looking for 5 main things. The rest are sort of "Options".

1-Lots of Space and Bandwith. (300+GB Space, 3000+GB BW)
2-BE VERY FAST.
3-Be Reliable. (Not much downtime, support, no delays)
4-Support Media Content.
5-Support Server Side Languages + MySQL (if theres no php my site is gone).

DreamHost covers these pretty well. Recently though, they have said that they are a bit slow and a lot of downtime.
ixWebhosting covers tehse pretty well too except the last one. Some say that their MySQL is very, very slow. Forums take forever to load.

Its like a cointoss between these two for me. Anyone have any ideas on which to choose and why? Or if you know any other hosting solutions that offer what I'm looking for.

You have selected two large overselling companies and with you wanting to support media content, both webhosts will cut you pretty quickly.

I also imagine you spent no more than 5 minutes searching. Your specs that you listed sound like you need a dedicated server, not a shared account.

I have been looking for about 2 weeks now. I've emailed AND talked directly to both and they support my kind of media files. Dedicated servers cost too much. A shared account will do for now. If theres any sort of success on my website, and I get in some revenue for the first year, I will move to a dedicated server.

IX and DH both cover my specs. I just don't know what the advantages of one over the other are. There are mixed reviews of both.

They support it of course, but you will not use your 300GB space and 3TB of Bandwidth without them turfing you before you touch any "realistic" numbers.

They oversell their hosting, what they offer for shared plans are unrealistic. If you truely, honestly need 300GB space and 3TB of bandwidth, you need a dedicated server.

If your site is newer, go with a more reputable web host that actually have realistic goals.

If you have a website which needs so much bandwidth (=you must have a lot of visitors) then I suggest to consider joining some affiliate program and sell products related to your website. IMHO website which has so many visitors that needs so much bandwidth has potential to earn enough money to cover dedicated server costs.

Well, thats the problem. I can't predict how my website will do. From my and my partner's point of view, it will go great. There is nothing on the web like our website, and we possess a higher coding skill than anyone that has attempted to join the Media Buisness (as far as Albanians go). We're hoping that with our war of doing things it will go smoothly. Ads will be in to secure income and hopefully make it far.

Now, if it is not success for any reason, it will be a shame. I've spent some time working on it. And there is I'd say about 5% of it failing, and about 25% of our expectations being overset. This is the main reason that I'm going for a shared for now and later on invest on a Dedi, faster internet for faster uploads, and maybe a worker or two, only if it is a success.

My current plan and wish is that it will be great. I will be using the shared for half a year or so. If there is enough revenue, while that is going on and the website is still up and running, I will get a dedi and work on it so it will not cause any downtime or whatnot.

I don't understand why people keep asking about the same companies even after read horrible reviews about them.
Don't you ever going to learn?

Erind, honestly if I where you, I would probably check my specs once more.

First of all, are you really going to use 300GB ? This is a volume enterprise companies must consider, add to this the possibility of redundant drives and possible DAILY backups ?

I doubt that you will find a reliable, not overselling host that you will be able to use for the budget which you probably have in mind.

If you really need those 300GB than by all means go for it, but do a conscious decision and go dedicated from the beginning, chances are that you dont want to share your machine with 10 other users which also want to use 300GB.

There are also security issues which you might want to consider f.e when running forums etc.

I hear ALL of you. I know you are right, but I'm hung from the throat here. I have no money to get a dedi as of now. But I have sort of changed my mind a bit.

I'll get the basic choices from dreamhost.com. 200gb space, 2tb bw (like 9.95/mo, no setup fee due to promotion code). The first couple of months I'll be using around 50gigs. I hope to make enough money during these first few months so I can get a dedi within 4 months or so.

Dedicated Servers usually come with contracts and I am not completely sure about my future status of the website. It could not make any revenue at all (god forbid). I'm not willing to take these risks.

The OP asked a simple question.
Which company is better.

...and if he do not want a dedicated server, then stop trying to persuade him.
It seems like he know the "risks" involved in going with a overselling host so let him do what he wants to do.

Btw, I used dreamhost for a good while now. No big problems as of yet.
Small minor problems and these were fixed in 24 hours.

No, The OP does not asked that simple question that you stated, he also said "Or if you know any other hosting solutions that offer what I'm looking for."

So, people here is trying to help him.

If you're already set on this idea, you might want to know that you can find coupons for $97 off. A Google search should lead you to a couple of them. Good luck! Hopefully you'll be prepared financially for a decicated by the time your site's usage requires it.

Yes, however he mentioned that for now, a dedicated server is out of his budget.

I simply stated a dedicated server because of what his specs were. If he is looking at 50GB, (If that was bandwidth.) then a VPS should suffice for now, but either way, his website will suck if he attempts to use 50GB with media on DH or IX.

All the power to him though

If your site is not CPU-intense, you can go with Dreamhost with your high bandwidth specs (tell us how it went afterwards). If you have a site with high bandwith + dynamic content, my suggestion is (as a compromise) to host your dynamic content on a separate VPS and your heavy files on a separate account over at Dreamhost.

Ix Webhosting runs H-sphere, which is nice - but beside that, I see no other pro using them over Dreamhost - despite Dreamhost's recent problems.
