My domain registrar (reserveyourname.com) is gone! What do I do?!
Hi,
Hoping someone can help me. I have my various domain names registered with reserveyourname.com -- and it seems they've gone out of business. Their website has been gone for months. They don't reply to emails. And their "mother" site (which I believe is DeZines webhosting) also seems to be gone (site is still up, but all email boxes full, all phone numbers don't work or are full, etc.).
So how can I renew my domain names when they're due? Do I have to wait until they actually run out, then go somewhere else and re-register them? Of course, that will mean my sites will be down in the meantime... Grrr...
Any help is apprecaited -- thanks!

If they have expired already, i would try and contact a bigname registrar like godaddy and ask them for some advice? If anyone knows what to do, it would be them.

Make a bulk transfer with godaddy and find a new host. Good luck.
Did you try to call them ?BPowers.com: Eu Web Hosting Solutions

Thread moved to Domain Name Forum.
It would seem they're owned by Webhostplus now. http://whois.domaintools.com/reserveyourname.com
I suggest you do a search on this company, so you know who you're dealing with now.
Do I have to wait until they actually run out, then go somewhere else and re-register them?
I would try to find out who's your domains' registrar by doing a whois. I would then ask the registrar for help/give you access to administer your domains.
If your domains are not locked and you have your email address in the whois details under administrative contact, you can also do a domain transfer to another registrar, basically without any outside help.
Good luck!

I tried calling reserveyourname.com -- phones don't work.
I tried calling hostplus -- you only get VM.
So I found out this about my domain:
Registry Data
ICANN Registrar: TUCOWS INC.
Now Tucows is a reseller, right? But can I contact them directly?

Suggestions are appreciated -- thanks!

You have to have the domain in unlocked status before you can transfer away. You probably will also need the EPP code. Do you still have access to the domain control panel?
I was a bit surprised that Tucows were so vague. Your best bet might be to find another Tucows reseller who can help you out.Signature Under Construction.

bloomcounty - You can do a whois lookup to find out if your domain is locked. If it's unlocked and you have an active admin email address in the whois, then just go to another registrar and request a transfer. If it's locked, then you should get more insistant with TuCows or find another TuCows reseller who might help.
webpromo - Presumably, that will only work with if you know the domain password. I'm not familiar with TuCows control panel for managing 1 domain, but at other places with similar options, you cannot unlock the domain there.Signature Under Construction.

When I go to the manage.opensrs.net link, it looks just like the log-in they used to have at reserveyourname.com. So is this "safe" to use? It looks like a secure site, but what/where exactly am I logging in to?

Oh my... This is the taught one...
My personal advice is http://moniker.com if you are ready to spend couple of bucks more. If you aren't, then (in no particular order):
- http://ohmyGodIforgothowtheyarecalled.com (too drunk today, sorry)
These are the top3 of most-recommended registrars here.
My personal advice again - avoid RegisterFly and GoDaddy like plague, whatever other people will try to tell you.
Good luck!!!Respect My Authoritah! - Eric Cartman (a friend of mine).

Personally, I don't care for the Moniker control panel and the 1 minute it takes to login is excrutiating. I'd recommend NameCheap also and second Stan's recommendation for Domainsite.

So I went with namecheap.com (at least to buy a new domain). Haven't tried transferring my old ones yet. But I have a couple questions:
1. Concerning the new domain: When I go to https://manage.opensrs.net and type in the domain name and username/password for my account with namecheap.com, I get this error message:
Error: Domain <my domain name is listed here> does not exist with OpenSRS
Please contact Support for assistance.
...what does this mean? Can I only access my domain name control panel through namecheap.com and not this other link? (I'm still uncertain what the difference is.)
2. Concerning transferring my domain names: I'm seeing that the namecheap.com site is saying you need an EEP code to transfer your domain, which you can get from your current registrar. But if reserveyourname.com is gone, how can I get my EEP codes for my existing website? Is this information available from logging into https://manage.opensrs.net? Or is there some other way I need to get it?
Thanks for the help!

I'm not sure, but you can always request the EPP code from OpenSRS directly, if it's not in their control panel. What is the status of the domain when you do a whois query?

There is a "Domain Auth Code" listed under the "Manage Domain Extra Information" -- would this be the EEP code? It says "must contain between 6 and 16 characters" and there is a 10 digit code in the field (although it looks like I can change it to whatever I want and resave the configuration). Is this the code that is required for transfer? (It kind of sounds like it...)
Also, any thoughts on Question #1?
Thanks!
