    Is this profiling?

If we enable profile pictures here?

Okay. There is no if. We are going to enable profile pictures here.

My question is, do we really need any rules? Will common sense prevail? Do we really need to state no sexually explicit or graphic pictures or things like that? Don't we have enough 'rules' here?

Sadly, I think we do. Not only the "common sense" of rules, but I think also no advertising would be a nice addition as well. I don't think we should ever assume anything when a member's account is at stake. I believe firmly in the motto "better be safe than sorry".

    Just my opinion, of course.

Maybe just state "Your avatar is subject to the signature and advertising rules of this forum."

Does that mean signature pictures could happen someday?
If you have to operate your company behind the scenes or under a fake name, maybe it's time to leave the industry and start something fresh.

I think rules are necessary. Profile pic is no different from custom title or sig in that there needs to be boundaries set. I don't think it's an issue of common sense, but simply there are plenty of forums that allow all sorts of things in pictures, and if it isn't explicitly outlined who's to say WHT is any different.

Frankly, I don't see a problem if someone were to choose to advertise in their profile picture.

It's only viewable when someone looks at your profile. If someone's looking at your profile, your profile picture should be you. If you choose to have some advertising banner instead, I think it would speak highly of you.

I think it's very different in that it isn't shown in posts.

I'd be all over rules for avatars. But this is about profile pictures.

You can see an example here.

Promotion is alright. It is there other pictures that may be unsuitable for civilized public. I worry about the common sense of members sometimes. We have had a few wildcards that might use this chance to post something inappropriate. So maybe some general guidelines covering illegal and inappropriate material.

I can see your point, I don't think promotion will be a big problem when compared to profile pictures that can be very inappropriate or contain bad language and so on.

You'll have to do it, or you could just saying 'use common sense'. And when they don't, ban them!

    Muhahaha.

Threads don't include profile pictures. Profiles are viewed less often than threads.

    We'll turn them on today.

I just added one line to the rules.
Profile pictures cannot include sexually explicit or graphically intense picutres
Hopefully we don't need to add more.

Dare I ask what uniform it would be and why you would be wearing it in the dark?

Sunglasses were worn in the dark (because they looked cool and I felt like taking a pic of them)

My uniform is my 'rent-a-cop' uniform so to speak and I typically don't wear it in the dark
