    HostGator - First 6 months

    I'd like to share my experiences so far. As I always say "every hosting company is somehow good until you need a tech support". I had terrible experiences with Micfo and Site5 just because of this tech support issue.

    HostGator answers my tickets in max 15 minutes and they always come with a solution in next 2-3 hours. My sites uptime is great and whenever I have questions I can find somebody to help me.

    Its nice that HostGator is providing sucha good support. But i had problems with Hostgator, The IP's they provided were banned by a huge number of ISP in Asia.

    So i had to shift on a dedicated server.

    You couldn't have just moved to a dedicated IP? Did you need upgrade?

    I could have moved to a dedicated IP, but instead chose a Dedicated Server, which proved lucky for me and my Hosting business.

    The only way to make 100% sure that your IP is not banned by certain ISP's is to go for a dedicated server, so Nitin Gupta did the right thing by moving to a dedicated server. If you just move for a dedicated IP, you will still be using shared mail server so you will still get your mail returned from time to time.

    is this still the case? or have their changed their ip range around? why did they get banned to begin with?

    I don't know.. I bought a Reseller Package with them (Around 8 Months back).. I got 2 IPs with it.. When i got the details and tried to access it, i wasn't able to .. Then i asked my friends from other part of the world to have a look at it and it worked perfectly fine for them.. Then after doing a bit of RnD, i found that some IPs of that subnet have been blocked coz of spamming :-(

    So i got my hosting cancelled with them(got my money back) and bought this Dedicated Server.

    Just want to point out that this is soooo true. For a second, I thought I was the only one who thought that.

    I realized that a person comin to this site looking for a reliable host that can provide good technical support, reads lots and lots of reviews by people who give positive recommendations on certain companies.

    The thing is, the review really depends on what the person needs!!! People who don't need much with there site (for example, no module installation, no database requirements, no programming language reqs, no high bandwidth issues), will think any host is reliable!!!


    I actually just e-mailed hostgator to test out their support. Replied within 15 mins...pretty impressive. But then again its is working hours for them. I'm asking them how long would it take to get Perl modules installed. Im a bit of a freak when it comes to this. I need my site up and running be4 tomorrow night and desperately need a server that can install modules and have it working properly withing 24hrs.

    Serdar, have you requested HostGator to install any thing for you as of yet?

    I have nothing but good things to say about Hostgator. They have always been right on top of things and tech support is great!
