Does this tracert show slow access to host??

    Hi there,

I am not very experienced in interpreting a tracert and was wondering if someone could comment on whether this tracer route shows slow access to my site at site5.com? Some of the millisecond access times seem to be rather long as it gets closer to my site.

Looks pretty normal to me for a traceroute that goes from Canada, to Seattle, to Santa Clara, to Chicago, to New York, to New Jersey.

Speed is a relative thing. Your route from Edmonton and mine from Vancouver vs someone from Florida are going to be different. although looking at yours, it seems early on there are some delays being introduced. Perhaps that's a function of the machine you are tracing from. Is it NT or better? Your first few hops would normally be < 10-20ms.

Here's a tool to trace from different locations in the world. Many choices, not all work. Quite useful.

Boy after doing a tracer route from various locations around the world I guess my site is not as slow in coming up as I might have thought.

I guess I will have to settle for a bit of slowness to get the hosting I want.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

Carlos - glad you checked that out.

I've also noticed that routes from western Canada to the eastern US have been a little slower as of late.

Maybe all these telecom companies losing money are putting multi-homed 286 PC's from 10 years ago in place of Juniper routers.

Carlos - you should try your trace again today from Edmonton.

For a week or so, traffic from here to NAC has been punted down through Seattle and south before heading east. Today its heading straight east.

I've been watching our path to NAC over the last week and it has been slower from this part of the world than what we are used to. Back to normal today. 3 less hops as well.
