    Dual Xeon 2.4 VS P4 2.4

Both Dual Xeon 2.4 and P4 2.4 running 2GB of ram, which would handle high traffic better with better performance. If any specific reason for you answer please state.

    Also Dual Xeon 2.4 , P4 2.8 and P4 3.0 which is better?

    Thanks in advance.

Well the dual xeon has two processors meaning it can conduct two jobs at once then with the hyperthreading it can handle up to 4 tasks at once where as the P4 would only handle 1 or 2 with hyperthreading.

interesting! anymore input anyone? also keep in mind the processor speed yes the dual is 2 processor with hyperthreading at 4 task at a time but what about the processor speeds out of all above which is the best for handling high traffic.

    Thanks

even P3M/1.8GHz would be faster than P4/2.4 GHz.

    Go with dual Xeon.

Well, a Single CPU can multi-task but it probably still do internal queuing to get the two or more task done. A Dual CPUs System will be able to run two concurrent tasks at a time.

So if you are running a software which supports multi-tasking or you are running more than one tasks, you should benefit from the dual CPU. If however you are running one very extensive program like many a game server, you may be better off with a faster single CPU.

Dual = 2 and 2 is generally better than 1.

Thats the short answer for dual 2.4 -vs- single 2.4.

*note do not confuse multiple logical cpu's (HT enabled chips) with dual cpu's. They are different.

Longer answer: Xeon's are better than P4's (larger cache and bus). I do not concur that the P3 would be better personally but the P3 is a decent chip better architecture than the lower end P4.
