Both providers have upsides and downsides. Doing a Search here would get you the most accurate results.
I am currently a customer of LayeredTech, and while their support is not the quickest things do eventually get done (I have only had to use support once, and that was during a chassis swap, where the initial diagnose and setting up the chassis swap went fast, the actual chassis swap didn't take place until a little bit later than I would have wanted). The LT network is superb, however, and I have rarely had any problems.
Yeah, best bet is to search and form your own opinion.
I'm a customer of SM, TP and I365, and have been very happy with them. Excellent network. Support is slow sometimes, but you can usually hit up a staff member in the forums and they'll make sure your taken care of. They also just turned up 2 10GigE connections to savvis and Level 3, and are turning up another one to Global Crossing in the next week. They say they are also planning on adding another 2-3 10GigE's over the course of the next couple months.
We have been considering LayeredTech's Layer 1 vs ServerMatrix Supers Server Series.
Which one would you recommend in terms of network quaility (mostly from Europe), uptime, handling hardware replacement and/or reboots, etc?
I've used LayeredTech before...
Network Quality -- Get into SAVVIS, stay away from Databank
Uptime -- 100% (In SAVVIS) for me
Hardware Replacements - Cant really say...never had an issue
Reboots -- Sometimes can take 1 hour or more...
I got 2 of the cheapest servers that ServerMatrix and LayeredTech offer for dns only servers. Haven't had any down time with either provider. LayeredTech's support is not as quick as ServerMatrix's but companies got my tickets answered correctly the first time. And I'm in the Savvis datacenter with LT
Network - Excellent
Support - Reasonable, however is quick. The support did start to decline I am unsure as to whether it's getting better or not.
Abuse - Good, very proactive and is designed for the customer.
Urgent problems(reboots/inaccessable etc) - Have remote reboot and console so excellent << Make sure you specify you want it WORKING as more than half of people in their datacenters were not supplied with it.
Network - Excellent(Savvis) , not experienced databank but you can see the outages section of WHT for that.
Support - Hit or miss, it can be really quick but if it's not then it will take forever, almost all of our layeredtech problems were staff ones.
Abuse - Horrible, by far the worst part about LayeredTech and is designed for the complaintee.
Urgent problems(reboots/inaccessable etc) - Again hit or miss, you have to rely on support. Reboots are normally quick however unless someone is available can take forever. If it goes further than a reboot it generally depends on which staff member you get, ie some are very good, some arn't.
