    Mac Servers

Do you or know any body that runs a MAC based server?

I have an old G4 and wanted to do something with it other then tossing Linux on it and learn something new.

The prices for OSX Server are not that bad maybe go that route.

Ive herd allot about Ubuntu and never used it.
I was considering the mac for some very low profile sites or an old AMD K6/2 500mhz... I believe the mac was a 450mhz, not sure about the performance issues.

OS X server is very capable and fun to play with. I suggest picking up a copy and playing around with it.

I can recommend 'grokthis.net' aka Grokthis for Mac Mini dedicated servers.

I have personal experience with this company and they are good, fast setup, nice brand new Mac Mini's + a good network.

    I run OSX based servers.

It depends on what you want to use it for. You mention having an old G4, do you want to use this?

If you are looking for enterpirse grade Mac servers, OSX Server is what you will need to consider.

If not plain old OSX is fine (it's Unix after all!) A Quick google for Mac Mini server will help....

Basically, web hosting, e-mail, DNS, PHP, Perl, mySQL etc. are all possible with any Mac and normal OSX. It will be rock solid, and any old Mac will work (if performance is not an issue)

    Hope this helps
