umount /tmp and make another partition.
Change your current working directory to /dev.
Create partition. 1GB
dd if=/dev/zero of=tmpNEW bs=1024 count=1000000
Make an extended filesystem
Backup your tmp first
mount -o loop,nosuid,noexec,nodev,noatime,rw /dev/tmpNEW /tmp
And that's all .
PS: don't forget to add this line to /etc/fstab
/dev/tmpNEW /tmp ext2 loop,nosuid,noexec,nodev,noatime,rw 0 0
cp -R /tmp /tmp_backup
voidSecurity, if the OP was using a CentOS or RHEL based distro, he or she would not want to put the tmp partition's base location in /dev. I would put it in /var, and call it /var/tmpdsk or something. CentOS recreates the /dev partition every time you reboot, so /dev really isn't a good place for it .
