htacess for coverting .htm /.html pages to .php
I wanted to use one of the link trade site. They need my site pages to be having .php extension against present .html / .htm. If Ichange the page to .php I amy loose my current pr. Some one told me it is possisble using htacess file. Can some one advice.
.Htaccess works as, people access your web pages in .php but it's actually reading .html pages. Or vice versa. Any change of existing urls will lose your PR.
My recommendation is, don't simply change your url. It's so hard to build trust for existing urls, especially if they are long time established.
So what you are suggesting is that I shall not use htacces file? doe that also effects PR.
In Your .htaccess just put
RewriteRule (.*)\.(html|htm) $1.php [PT,L]

You can rewrite urls via htaccess file. Don't forget to redirect permanently old urls to new one for SEO value to be intact. Read about url rewriting:
