Every once in a while someone tries to fax something to my home phone number by mistake. If I get an incoming call that is a modem tone, I can figure that they'll try again. So I might boot to Windows if I'm not already there, and turn on auto-receive in WinFax to find out what they were trying to fax me. Then I can annotate it that it was a wrong number and fax it back.
The thought occured to me: What might happen if I use WinFax to answer a telemarketer call? Since I'm on the Do-not-call list, I don't get these often.
Does anyone know if the telemarketer's software will simple note it as unsuccessful, try again later? Or will the software note it as a fax number and take it off the call list? Will it then put it on their fax-spam list?
Lots of companies use fax spam... mostly pump & dump stocks, vacation packages, and things like that. I've never received any at home, but published fax numbers for companies seem to get quite a bit from what I've seen.
