What do you think of ******'s Automatic Upgrades for domain accounts?
I have several domains with ******, no other reason, simply cheap.
and it's always the truth, you get for what you pay,
but for that price, i can claim nothing
recently, i received many emails from ****** telling me that
they would like to upgrade my domain account to their hosting account
and i will be billed $39.95 for the upgrade, which will cost $95.40
if i do nothing with the email in 10 days, i will be billed automatically.
seems good, but what if i did not check the email for 10days?
what if i am on holiday or trip, without an internet access?
and what if i have 50 or more domains with them?
maybe ****** should know that, no matter how big saving this offer is
this is just how they think, not the customers,
and, the money are the customers', only they have the right to decide how to spend
it seems that ****** offen give their $1.99 domain customers such "kind offer"
who is still willing to have such company keep his billing info?
= = = Take Your Domain to the Next Level = = =
As our dedicated domain customer, you will be receiving an automatic upgrade to
******.com's award-winning hosting services at a highly-discounted price of
only $39.95, instead of $95.40! That breaks down to only $3.33 per month, truly
a price that won't break the bank!
What do I think? I think they suck. They have no right to automatically bill anyone's credit card, unless already approved by the individual or unless it's a subscription. Just because you *have* someone's credit card number doesn't mean that you can use it when you feel like it, even if you send them a stupid courtesy notice in advance. What are they going to do about bounced emails? Drop the domains for false whois info? I was furious when I read that they think they would automatically bill me. WTF ...
It's absolutely slimy that they are doing this, and I didn't notice I'd be charged until I read the second email (which I just got). When you click the link and try to opt out, the two buttons say OPT OUT, and I'VE RECONSIDERED, which is sort of confusing in itself. I mean, if you have reconsidered their offer, that is the SAME as opting out. DUH -- Never trust a company that resorts to such tactics to make their money. I don't know why they are trying so hard to get more hosting customers, they already have more than they can handle. Their staff is completely incompetent and uncaring, and their hosting is overpriced! The fact that they would rob people this way makes me wonder if they won't fold soon under some decent-sized lawsuits. I'm sure there are people out there who are not paying attention but who are not to be messed with in this manner. One can only hope.
