Okay, well I wanted to sell webhosting as something to do. But I cant really agree on where to get my dedicated server at, so I was hoping that someone from here could help me. What I really need is something small / a bit on the cheaper side, I guess I would like to stay in the range of $60-$75 a month. I'll need something thats able to handle about 60 clients but I am not sure what kind of hardware and bandwidth ill be needing for that. I will need a rather large harddrive too.
I think a VPS would be your best bet for no bigger than your talking about.
You wouldn't have to worry as much about initial setup of the server...you'll still have to set up DNS etc, but it'll be a bit easier going through a VPS imo...
Well I was hoping after I got a few clients, that I would be able to upgrade my server to something a little bit better. But as where to start off at, I am not sure. I know nothing about VPS, any help?
VPS is ust like having your own server in a way..except its a bit different.
VPS = Virtual Private server
Generally VPS providers have one big server (Dual Core Dual Opterons 4GB ram etc etc) This is then split up via VPS software and your guaranteed a certain amount of processor time, ram, HD space etc....
And its just like having your own server except its shared, and a little cheaper.
Check some of the hosts int he dedicated server offers forums...a good number of them have VPS packages.
What control panel do you plan to use and how familiar are you with it? Why do you want to do webhosting? How are you going to attract prospect? Why would prospect choose yours over others? Etc... you have gotta answer these questions, before thinking of going webhosting.
It's not A,B,C but if you have a great plan, why not?
I would strongly suggest you to start with reseller if you do not know your desired control panel inside out. Then upgrade to VPS once you have enough revenue and know CP better, many VPS providers include management, which is good for starter.
I guess I would be able to go $70-$85 perhaps a little more if their is no setup fee. I have a good friend that said he would be more than happy to manage my server and have it all setup for me to use. I was told to go to bestofdata.com and get a dedibox but after a bit of reading I found out that the processors was unable to handle alot. So, I looked into leaseweb, and I found that I could get a really nice server from them, but when I pinged them I was getting a average of 133ms.
