Looks good to me, personally I would go for a Core 2 Duo right now, and if I were to purchase an AMD processor then I would cut cost where ever possible in other areas to get a 4600+ or 4800+. Other then the CPU (which is still a solid processor for the price, but just considering how quickly speeds are increasing these days I would go a little faster) it's looks great though.
The X2 is in no way better then the Core 2 Duo, so I'm not sure where that came from. I own an AMD processor and I'm not an Intel fan boy in any way, it's the truth though.
The 4200+ is a great processor, but Intel is releasing their quad core soon and AMD's answer to Core 2 Duo isn't far off, I would pay the extra money to get a CPU that won't be obsolete for a little while longer if I were you. That system is more then capable, but so was my 3400+ when I bought that a year ago
My system is 2 Years old and yeh originally it did the job but now i like to browse 4 internet pages (using IE 7 tabbed browsing ) and i like to be emailing people have 2 messengers open listen to music and other bits and bobs and working in SSH on servers
Im not building the system until christmas time so ill see whats around then
Thanks for the feedback keep it coming Much appreciated
Yeah, the longer you can wait the better. I was personally considering building a new system a few months back but decided to wait, there's a lot of new technology on the horizon in the area of CPU architecture and prices are dropping very quickly.
if you're going amd, be sure to price out the equivalent with an am2 platform & ddr2 memory just to compare.. a little extra dough now might be worth it in the long run.
otherwise, an intel dual core might give you more bang-for-the-buck...
the intel vs amd debate is raging war in my head right now for my own new build i'll be doing this fall. right now i'm leaning towards intel, as i am thinking it'll be the gaming rig that gets updated; which is all intel now. staying in the same chipset family can make keeping the same o/s install a bit easier.
