As a note, the network was never down, most users were still able to reach all parts of the network. The only real issue appeared to be with those being routed inbound network through Savvis, which was quickly congested by the attack, some issues with nLayer may have also been noted. As soon as the attack was detected, very shortly after it started, our network engineers were working on resolving the issue.
As a note, it seems the attack was roughly 3.0 Gbit/sec, the largest we have seen in a good long time.
As a note, 3 Gbit/sec is what we saw on our end. After talking to engineers at nLayer and Savvis, the attack is now estimated to have been 15 Gbit/sec, with 7-8 Gbit/sec going to nLayer alone. I would like to thank nLayer, Savvis, etc. for their cooperation in this matter, which has been by far the largest attack we have ever seen.
