    Time Restraints

I was just wondering why time restraints exist for members that are always posting - I can understand a few second one but why do people need to wait a full minute (or however long it is)?

    Just curious ;D

Maybe there should be some kind of less-amount-of-time-required thing as you get more posts (like there is for the custom user title).

It's all to do with spammers and stopping them from making lots of countless posts and getting to spam the advertising forums.

It's not a by-usergroup setting. One size fits all, even for staff. We also wait the 90 seconds...worth it for what it helps prevent, IMHO.

Yeah, still I know of some larger forums that do without it and their member base if for the most part considerably more immature.

Yeah, but I think once someone hits 500 posts it's pretty clear they're not going to start spontaneously spamming WHT

It may not be obvious spam, but they will still sig spam. There is plenty of that going on here at WHT.

Practically everyone here advertises in their sig, I don't think that spamming is going to accomplish much.

If anon-e-mouse can make 15 posts per day and not have a problem with the time restraints then I think we all should be fine too .

That's twice my average. Must be why I don't even have the 'occasional issue.'

It's not that difficult to make two posts in 90 seconds.

If that limit there I would post 3x as much garbage. I'm sure other members would go as high as 10x as much garbage. It's good to have the limit.

    Yeah, they'd make a ****** post every 9 seconds

    I don't really care, but regardless I don't think it's justified.

I use to think the same way, despite what others said and commented when these types of topics came about. And now I am on the other side of the fence, it's amazing what that little 90 seconds can do. If it wasn't for 90 seconds, the chasing would become a lot harder and take a lot more of my time. But I am sure no matter how much I explain it, you are probably like how I used to be.

It's also not that hard to have a normal flood control like every other forum on the planet if we want to play this game.

We've also seen that the 90 second wait doesn't exactly prevent spam. We've had a couple people do that (not sure who remembers them) - people who make about 15 posts spamming things and it doesn't come to the attention of mods fast enough.

Yup, we're human, and there's only so many of us.

But let's whip out the calculators for a second.

Let's say that he posted every second he got, and he did end up posting 15. But if the timer was only 30 seconds (15 * 3), that would have been 3 times as many posts as he could have with a 30 seconds. Then instead of deleting 15 posts, we would have had to delete 45 posts. It really saves us time, and helps us keep control of the spammers. Which is why I can never see it being lowered, raised I can though

Then there is the entire thing pixelized stated, if there are more strict posting time rules, people are less likely to post general garbage anyway. There are many "active" members that I can think of that would definitely take advantage of a lower post timer. And that's just me, can you imagine if every single person did? That would be insanity.

How about a system where, with every post you make, the posting limit drops by a few seconds.

When you register - 1 post per 15 minutes

Then with every 5 posts you make, the limit drops by 2 second.

However, when you are warned, or alerted, your limit is increased. But, the 30 point - ban rule would still be around.

I'm not campaigning to get this changed as I've said before it doesn't matter to me that much, I'm just arguing that I don't think it's necessary.

Dude, they've already said they won't lift the time restraints. Just give it a break! Shouldn't you be busy selling web hosting, running your business etc instead of posting here obsessively anyway??

edit: you added a few lines after I posted this
