I am currently hosting my sites on a reseller plan with 30 GB of bandwidth. One of the sites is a portal. These are not high traffic sites right now but the portal does receive a fair amount of traffic. The problem is that the portal seems very, very slow all of the time. My other three sites are just small websites. I'm considering transferring to a new hosting company with larger disk space but less bandwidth (only 10 GB). My question is: will this make the portal faster?
The server is just one part of the equation, and arguably not the most important one in this particular case. Any server will have poor performance if it is overloaded. lexchel, did you check the server load?

There can be no guarantee, but, in theory, the more you pay per GB, the more CPU power can be available to you.
These are not the issues. Try a server in a different country.
I doubt distance alone will make a site load so slow as to cause him to move, but some type of networking issue might. That's something worthy of investigation.
lexchel, are you sure it's not just you experiencing this slowness? Did you have other people from other corners of the world check your site?
Possibly near to your country.
If he really wants to go as far as choosing the host location with optimum performance in mind, he should host the site close to his target market/location where most visitors come from, rather than where he lives. The two locations are not necessarily identical.
Moving your smallest site wont make your biggest faster.
Probably the slowness of your portal is not caused for your smalles sites. therefore, you may be benefitied with a faster speed if you move them, but on the smallest ones.
If your portal is slower, it does not depend on the space and he bandwidth that you are having, It depends on the server specification that you are having and the database connectivity that you are having in your portal...
May be you may have to check the server specification and the database queries that you are doing in the portal...
Bandwidth and space will not be a big issue when accessing a website.
