We're a UK based not-for-profit sailing club, with a strong youth and charitable influence.
After many many problems with our current webhosting (we was unlucky enough to be on crediblehost.com since they started having all their problems), we have decided to switch.
We have also decided to have a UK based company, with UK based servers, with live/telephone support readily available if need be.
We don't require dedicated server amounts of transfer/space, but a dedicated IP would be nice. Our budget is around the £100-£200 mark per year. We are more interested in good, prompt, honest support and 100000% reliabilty than massive amounts of storage/transfer for cheap.
cPanel, an uptodate version of PHP, MySQL & PHPMYADMIN a must!
So to these ends - who do you suggest? which UK companies have you found best?
There are loads of UK hosts who offer these specs but it is often the case you only find out how good their support is when you actually start to use their services. Before we got our own servers we moved around several hosts as our site grew. You'll find a lot of money going into large hosts like Fasthosts and 1&1 but they seem far too general and can be quite expensive in comparison to some services. Last time I checked Fasthosts charged extra for MySQL for example.
<<snipped>> On that line, you might want to speak to other sailing clubs and even members of your own club to see where they host their websites (if they have them, and some people are bound to). Word of mouth tends to be the best form of advertising and you'll get an honest opinion of what the host is actually like.
