ok guys, i have 5 sites hosted with serverplace.net.
actually, these websites are for customers of my web design business, and i chose the host for them as it was very cheap and their websites didnt require too many resources.
all the websites are sp special, with 1gb space, and 25 gb bandwidth for 1.95$ per month.
now, the oldest website there ive had for about 2 months, and so far there hasnt been any downtime. the support...well....not so good but extremly friendly!!!! I would definitly recommend these guys to anyone who wants something really cheap yet acceptable.
examples of their support:
1- i ordered a hosting package with a domain name. for some reason the domain name was not registered. i recieved just the hosting. when i tried to register the domain seperatly through them, it came back as unavailable....it took about a week, and 8 or 9 emails till they finally registered it for me and everything worked.
2- i asked support to transfer an existing website for me to a new hosting package i just ordered. the old domain was due to expire in 2 days. they never got around to transfering it and the data was lost!!
3- i asked support to transfer an existing website for me to a new hosting package i just ordered. nothing happened for 2 days, so i emailed them. they emailed me back saying it was done. i checked the website but nothing was transfered! i emailed again. this time they assured me they had done it......and guess what they had done???? they copied the old cpanel's full back up file to the public_html and unzipped it!!!! amazing, i was actually torn between laughing my head off or ripping my hair out!!! eventually they got around to restoring it....but......and this is probably not their fault, the cpanel was completly destroyed, it still showed all the old hosts details (disk space, mysql usage, bandwidth etc) and all the icons were gone, and still had the old user and pass from the old host!!! but worse, the databases were never restored. when i restored them manually via phpmyadmin, all the data was destroyed because of an encoding problem when moving from mysql 4.1 to 4.0.
and now for the positives:
Their support is so friendly, especially Bassam who seems to be the owner. he will go out of his way to help you.
the verification process is extremly tedious. you have to verify your order via phone just after you sign up or your account will never be activated, and after you recieve your account you have to verify your credit card by entering the exact amounts youre billed for (they bill you the amount on 2 seperate bills for that purpose), and you have to fax the order confirmation you recieve from them.
going through all that is a pain, I just did it for my first domain, after that when i want to purchase another hosting plan, i just write to Bassam at support and tell him that Im signing up for another account and ask him to manually verify everything for me. He does it everytime! what a sweet guy!
so now you have the deal. serverplace.net is cheap, but its actually quite good......
for that amount of money. I would not complain about support. they seem to be doing fine for under $3/month.
the verification seems like too much for that little money though

If the owner of Serverplace.net reads this, could you pm me.
Your support can't seem to even understand what is typed in a ticket (english). I've asked them to have the owner contact me, but I don't know if they have. I assume they are hired by serverplace.net and don't want you to know how horrible of a job they are doing.
