For Hire: Full-time Coverage, Half-Time Work - Support, Sys Admin, Network, Web
I am a self-employed, multi-skilled technical guru looking to provide a single company with full-time coverage, but only about 4 hours or less of work per day. This sounds silly I know, but it is great for people looking for someone typically paid $70-90k/year for only around $30-40k.
With over 15 years experience, my level of interest and skill set is very diverse. I support all three computer platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux), I did my own web hosting business for 10 years, I do PHP programming, MySQL, skilled in Linux server administration, Mail issues, DNS. I don't mind helping grandma with email issues or setting up a redundant fail over solution for one or more servers. Over the years, I have faced just about every issue in the web hosting business. Dealing with vulnerable customer code that was compromised, spam issues, troubleshooting scripts, if you can think of it, I probably have done it.
Nothing is to small or too big.
How it works:
Since this is not an every day offer, I want to clarify. Typically, a work day is 8 hours, M-F. I would give you 4 hours or less per day of my time (whatever we agree on), spread out over the full 8 hours, so you get full coverage (to answer tickets, phone, email, etc) and to address issues as they arise. I also have no issue being on call 24/7 for emergency issues.
I can do everything from doing basic support tickets, to doing high end planning, custom php/myql programming, and doing just about anything you want me to do.
I work from home currently, will soon have my own office space. Since I run my own sites and want to focus on them and building them up, but doesn't take up all my time nor does it provide the income level I need on it's own.
I have worked many places before, where I was paid big bucks to keep chairs warm waiting for the "big event" and I spent less than half my time doing "real work". I'm not lazy, I was just good at getting things done. No sense in you doing the same. Get me at half the cost or a 1/3 the cost and I will give you the coverage you need, at a price you can afford and a skill set you need.
If you interested, send me a PM and we can talk. I am located in the USA, English is my native (and only, I don't think pig latin counts) language. Available to start immediately. Looking for standard coverage, 8-5 M-F (CST/CDT) but hours can vary if needed.

I am not sure I understand it, but can you explain more exactly how you try to acomplish that?

I am less on trying and more on doing. The entire offer is quite sweet.
Let's say you have a full-time position available to fill. You’re willing to pay $35k for that person to fill on a yearly salary basis. That limits you (depending on regional location) to either a limited or entry level skill set. You must spend time bringing someone up to speed, teaching them and running them through the process. This takes time. In addition, you will probably need to tap more experience and higher cost resources from time-to-time aside from your entry level employee.
Unless you have 40 hours worth of work per work for that position, then I would be a great candidate. I would cover a full shift, just like your entry level person, answer tickets, take calls, whatever. But, I am up to speed in short order once I get your processes grasped. In addition, my experience, and background allow me to address infinite more issues than an entry level person would provide and I can troubleshoot and solve things more quickly and of course, be able to do more.
The catch is that, I will have other side projects I will be working on. You wouldn't expect to get more than say, 20 hours of work out of me a week of the course of a week (minus of course, exceptions) but I would provide that coverage over a typical 40 hour week. Plus, I can be on call (in rotation or otherwise) 24/7 to handle emergencies, PHP programming, HTML, Web Design, you name it.
If you need me for more hours in a given week for a period of time, then you'd just pay more for that week. I am easy going and very flexible.
It isn't for everyone... but for the right employer, it would be the perfect match. If roles where reversed, I would do it in a heart beat, because I know I would get a more competent person, for a fraction of the cost. Plus, the advantage of having the coverage, having someone that operates as an employee operates and not just a 3rd party service provider that may not have your business interests at heart.
If you want to discuss it, send me a PM. My numbers above are just an example, we can mix and match for what is best for both parties.
