What Do YOU Want Out Of A Hosting Company?

If somebody was to ask you this question, what would you expect to be standard when you ordered a hosting account?

What fee's would you expect to pay?

What things are lacking from most hosting companies?

Me personally would expect a hosting account that actually grows with my needs, without having to pay extra!

I'd expect one to know the market sufficiently and not have to make a new thread every few days about 'what everyone wants'.

It's their job to already know.

    1. For it to work as advertised. There is nothing worse than signing up for an account and having a tech tell you that although X was advertised on the page, it is not working or a work in progress. Then they say, they will update you later.

    2. Depends on what I am trying to do.

    3. Many (not most) are missing honesty, integrity reliability, support, and good communication. I could not tell you what most are missing… I don’t think anyone can. (maybe most are missing a lot of customers ).

    4. I would not, but I would expect the host to offer reasonable packages so I can move up as my website grows.

If my site worked as I expect it to work for a fee I could pay, I would be very happy with my host.

(Inexperienced webmasters require more support. That means good hosts should walk the extra mile . . . )

extra fees, This is a thing of the past. Most hosts dont even charge for over bandwidth use. A good host needs reliability and flexibility with "good" support.

That's a bit like expecting a house that grows with our needs, without having to pay extra.

Better yet, it's like your exployer expecting you to ever increase the amount of work you put in, without ever having to increase your monthly wage.

There are soooo many hosting companys out there so it shouldnt be hard to find a good host at a good price with everything you want.

I want to see more hosts experimenting in HPC or HA cluster type of things.

It may cost less, compared to managing many many separate servers.
And it might offer "infrastructure level" availability.

Also, I would like to see more hosts thinking and acting like mission critical industries (transport, banks, power, and so on).
I don't expect that from a small host operated by teen, though.

Maybe Data Center can also rent/sell so-and-so number of nodes, instead of selling physical servers.
