Thumbs down managemybox.com - managed or not?

    Managemybox.com 2 month review

I have used managemybox for over two months now, and was happy with their service up to yesterday.
They offer managed servers, and 24/7 quick support. But what kind of support do they offer when you get a problem on their server?
Here is my story so you see what kind of managed service they offer on their servers:

My server has been up over 60 days and no problems at all. The server runs CentOs 4.x and Plesk 8.0.1. I use managemybox sine I’m not a Linux user.
Yesterday I was deleting one of my domains in Plesk when the server went down. The server did not go totally down, but the http services stopped and the server was very very slow. I could not access Plesk any more, but I could ping the server.

I opened a ticket with managemybox:
    Issue Opened 13-10-2006 16:20
    Description Of Support Issue
The issues being experienced are: Partial Outage

    Their first reply:

Then nothing, I opened a new ticket
    Issue Opened 13-10-2006 21:07
    Description Of Support Issue
My server are still down...or the HTTP service are down.
When I try to start them in Plesk I get this:

ERROR: PleskFatalException Create shortcutCreate shortcutUp LevelUp Level

Unable to make action: Unable to manage service by websrvmng: websrvmng: Service httpd failed to start

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    0: /usr/local/psa/admin/plib/common_func.php3:172
psaerror(string 'Unable to make action: Unable to manage service by websrvmng: websrvmng: Service httpd failed to start')
    1: /usr/local/psa/admin/htdocs/server/restart_services.php:30

    And here is their reply:
    Reply By managedservices - 13-10-2006 21:12
    [root@server ~]# /etc/init.d/httpd restart
    Stopping httpd: [FAILED]
Starting httpd: httpd: could not open document config file /var/www/vhosts/webhost-review.info/conf/httpd.include

You may wish to fix that error, then apache will be able to restart.

Hello. do I have a managed server or not? Why do I have to fix this error when I have a managed server?

And I do not know how to fix this since I can not use Linux....thats the reson for using your services.

And when I try to delete the domain from Plesk I only get this:

Table:elect() failed: no such row in the table

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    0: /usr/local/psa/admin/plib/dns/DNSZone.php:52
    DNSZone->DNSZone(string '10')
    1: /usr/local/psa/admin/plib/common_func.php3:2606
    objectMaker(string 'DNSZone', string '10')
    2: /usr/local/psa/admin/plib/dns/DNSManager.php:39

And here are their last reply:

The problem is with something you have modified which takes it outside the scope of support.

What have I modified? I have only used Plesk on this server. I have used Plesk to create and delete domains thats all.

I tried to delete the domain in Plesk when the server stop working. After that the HTTP services has been down.

So what have I done who are my fault? Check the logs etc, and you will see that I have never done anything beside creating/deleting domains in Plesk and upload my files with FTP.

My HTTP service has been down for over 18 hours now, and no reply from managemybox, and no help.
It’s not much managed services at managemybox.com

Moving my sites over to Layered Tech and Windows 2003. That’s my story with all tickets. Do I have to high expectations, or is this a problem managemybox should have fixed? Can they blame this on me? I have only used Plesk to manage my server. And the error occurred when I tried to delete a domain. That’s a task Plesk should manage.
Please feel free to comment on my tickets, problem or managemybox service handling in this case.
    Sorry for some poor English.

After recent reviews posted on WHT about them, it seems they are currently struggling from low staff or something, maybe this is why they are letting you down??

Have you complained to them? You shouldnt have to move over to Windows to get decent service, all you need is a decent management company to administer your server.

This is the management companies fault as they should have fixed the issue for you, not the operating system. Even if it was something you may/may not have ammended, if they know how to fix it, they should have done so...

do you really expect a fully managed server at that price?

I think you are getting what you pay for.

But I expect a working server and not 22 hours of downtime on a software error. Maybe a hardware/network problem but not a "easy" problem.

But like you say, I got what I paid for. and have now moved.

Xcellweb Matt: I do not want to move my server to another Linux host and pay the same as I can pay for a Windows server I can manage my self.
A good Managed Linux provider with Plesk will cost me around $100+++

Just thought i'd update this to state that it was actually resolved after that time by us, I agree we should have solved that for customer straight away and will ensure that PLESK problems are resolved faster in future.
ManageMyServices was sold by me in September 2009. I no longer have any affiliation with this company.
