[centos]Kernel 2.6.18 VS 2.6.9-42

I'd like to reinstall centos 4.4 on my server, but i'm doubting which kernel to install. Yum update installs kernel 2.6.9-42, i guess this kernel is optimized for centos 4.4? The latest stable kernel is 2.6.18. Is it better to keep the default kernel provided by centos, or install the newest stable kernel?

If you are using the latest centos 4.4, then use the kernel patched by centos via yum update.

It was able to solve the load with this new kernel from centos plus you will get the stable and secure kernel as long as you keep updated.

I've installed the ner -42 kernel on a XP2400 machine with rhine lan card, and it gave me LAN errors. (so I've no lan, useless)

Any other with this issue?

I've read that kernel -34 dont have this problem with the rhine driver, but.... also have read It have high load problems..... so..... what to do?

There's been a LOT of updates since 2.6.9 and 2.6.18... I'd go for the 2.6.18 kernel myself.
