DirectAdmin all the way for speed. It doesnt incorporate too much into your server so you have to do a lot from the shell whcih is mainly copy and paste stuff from their forums which are great by the way for support and addon scripts

DA is one of the only control panels that can run Apache 2.2.3 (in a stable fashion). You'll see a VAST increase in performance when compared to a cPanel box running Apache 1.3.x.

Speaking for myself, not my employer:
Based upon personal experience and what others have told me the fastest of the more popular ones (cPanel, Plesk, Ensim, DA, InterWorx) are DA and InterWorx.
I have zero experience with CP+ Helm, or HSphere.Tim Ryberg, InterWorx L.L.C. | InterWorx Hosting Control Panel 3.0!

Again another vote for DirectAdmin and its speed and stability. cPanel though is more popular and has more features though you do end up having more bugs and occasional strangeness.

Greetings:
Over the years, we've found H-Sphere from http://www.psoft.net/promo/ to be extremely stable, reliable, and fast.
Thank you.

you would never break things when updating DA
Rails in DA - Ruby on Rails plugin for Directdmin | DA-Tomcat - Tomcat Manager plugin for Directdmin
DA-PgSQL - PostgreSQL plugin for Directdmin | IP Deny Manager - IP Deny Manager plugin for Directdmin
DeeperAdmin - Manager your DirectAdmin server "deeper"
Order now at http://www.daplugin.com

Currently using cpanel and directadmin, offering clients to switch over to directadmin or stay with cpanel. Will be setting new clients up on directadmin servers from now on as most clients like directadmin's control panel better.

I've been using cpanel for ages but i've seen many thread singing the praises of DA guess it's time for me to take a look at see what the buzz is.
But let me add to the OP's question what does cPanel have that DirectAdmin doesn't that somebody would truly miss? How many web hosts does it take to screw in a light bulb?

DirectAdmin has to be the fastest and most flexible of control panels. It's much faster than cpanel.

Well it would depend on certain things, if your running a Celeron, lowend server, I would use DirectAdmin or Interworx.com. If your running a p4/Xeon/AMD Athlon/Opteron and a min 1GB ram, then they will all respond quickly, jsut decide which one has the features you need.

Hello,
The free control panel that runs widely is:
Directadmin
the commercial control panel that is widely used is
Cpanel/WHM
Plesk
Ensim.
I would suggest you to go for cpanel.
Thank you.
Regards,
