I thought they gave you more space as each month went by ... I.e. you get 20gb, then 40, and your limit keeps increasing or something.

Live streaming would cause the cpu limit to hit the root pretty fast.

    Wow... just wow.

I highly doubt that any DreamHost employee entered your live chat system. If you could provide me with a name, I'd be happy to ask them for you.

How do you know they were an employee? Did they say they were? If I say I'm a HostingChoice employee, does that make me one?

I find it a bit surprising that you would expect us to cause something to 'happen' to your network. It's amazing how quickly people jump to incredibly extreme conclusions these days.

Calm down. We're not going to do anything to your network.

Ask Josh, he's got the specifics. When the person conected, his IP was something .dreamhost.com

They asked a lot of proprietary questions, like how many servers do you own and stuff like that.

Not something we would fabricate, we were acutally a little worried. Like I said, Josh responded to the query so I don't have the exact details.

Maybe it was someone on one of your servers?

The reverse IP was something.dreamhost.com, whoever it was just asked about our servers, something about how could we guarantee we don't oversell, meaning they clearly read this thread which they interpreted as me bashing them for overselling I suppose.

What does their reverse DNS have to do with being 'in the ISP business'?

  20. #45
Ah i see now, so he gave a website when he had to go onto live support?

I suppose thats a reasonable request.

I though he looked up the customer's IP, which seemed extremely strange.

Or it could be a customer wanting to switch.

Never mind, he's going to "hax" you site! Secure the network!

I never implied that, my partner did and I think it was a tad pretentious, but alright.

My chat client shows the visitor's reverse IP when they use live support, so no I didn't look up their IP.

Why would a dreamhost client have .dreamhost in his reverse IP? He would be using his IRC client from his home computer, no?

Regardless, dreamhost.com was in the reverse IP so I was a bit worried at first. Woudn't you be as well if someone came into your live chat asking about overselling / your servers?

It's cool, I have nothing against Dreamhost nor will I ever. I was just being cautious given the circumstances.

I agree that I think it was one of their employees, I just wouldn't go as far as to say that they're going to attack our network.
