    Hostgator - Really slow download??

I just got an account with hostgator, and there seems to be a problem here.
I can download off of sites hosting with DreamHost at 600 KB/s.

Hostgator - well, Let's just say I've never seen it go past 180 KB/s.

    I expected more.

It's funny how you would say that, because I've always seen everyone complain about how slow the download speeds are with DreamHost. You must be the first one to say otherwise, I assume.

    Where are you located?

Try contacting their live support to let them know that there is a ticket waiting.

Not to veer off topic, but my download speeds from Dreamhost have always been very acceptable (upwards of 1000kb / s) for large files.

Shouldnt that be reserved for service affecting issues? I understand slow downloads may be an issue - however, submitting a ticket with high priority over something like this may not be appropriate.

Also, when you submit such a ticket, please ensure you include as much data as possible - ie tracerts, ping responses, etc... It will at least give them the data they need to help isolate and resolve the issue for you in a timely manner....

I wasn't the one that put that priority. Live Support did it for me, considering they said it should take 20-30 min for a response. It's been 4 hours!

Download speed is totally dependent on server load, intermediate networks and routes taken to reach your ISP...

    65ms is very very good.

I can download off of sites hosting with DreamHost at 600 KB/s.

These random tests are very subjective. As mentioned above, it depends on "intermediate networks and routes taken". It also depends on the network load at that particular time of your test.

If you really want to drill down to the cause of the "problem", as mentioned, you need to "include as much data as possible - ie tracerts, ping responses" to Hostgator. Attach these data with your ticket. Also mention the exact date and time - if you can, specify the server date and time.

    Good luck ...

It doens't matter what plan he is on as all our servers are on 100mb ports with no download or upload capping. If he's seeing slow speeds it is most likley his isp / bad connection. He never provided a ticket number so he may not even be a client of ours.

Please provide ticket number or your account. Thanks

I am a customer, and by the way, the ticket is closed.

I have roadrunner 4.7 MB Down. I reeaally don't think it's my connection, considering I just downloaded a file off of a Dreamhost hosted website, and I got 800 KB/s.

While I got about 137 KB/s on your servers.

Roadrunner cable slows down all the time for many people. Cable is a shared connection meaning the speed has to do with how much bandwidth the neighbors around you are using. During peak hours it's going to be slower and depending on how many people are using it at a given point in time it can be a lot slower. This may or may not have been the problem, but there's a much higher likelihood of this being it then our 100mb port that averages around 3mb/s being the issue. There can be many factors when determining a slow down. Location, connection, server, datacenter, etc.

I would like to review your ticket number, what was it? Thanks!

Maybe you want to try this tool to check your site from several countries (it is free)

    http://www.tracert.com/

This other site might be usful to check your ISP transfer speed.

I think these type of issues should be taken care with hostgator directly through their helpdesk system / forums and they should be contacted first about the problem, and if those options fail and still no fix for the problem then posting here on WHT will be a good idea.

Hopefully the issue with this user will be addressed.

    Cheers
