Hello all, I just purchased a few RAq 4 from a hosting company. And I am trying to put a 40 GB HDD in one unit. I have the cross over cable between the Server and the load box. Every time I start the server or have the server started it get the Oops: 0002 Error. Kernel Panic. Nothing I can find had been able to resolve this. So I am reaching to you for assistance.
The server came with a 6.4 GB that appears to load and work. Even thought I have not been cable to connect to the admin side via the local intranet here in the office.
Can some one give me Idea's as to why I am getting the Oops: 0002. I know the Memory and CPU are good.
Could be the CDrom, NIC, HDD or a faulty Restore CD.
Are you using a Read-only CDrom? Sometimes I get errors on DVD or read and Write roms
There are specific PCI network cards to use, make sure you got a compatible one.
Some HDDs may not work, are you using the Seagate U5 or U6 HDDs? If they are LBA48, the original OS may not work. Drives that are 5400rpm should be able to run properly. Not all 7200rpm Drives are compatible. For me when I use the Barracude IV drives, install sometimes jams.
Lastly the restore CD may be faulty try changing it.
As for the Rackstar try www.rackstar.net or if you need help I can open my archive for you to download.
To use the Rackstar OS you need to install the OS on a whitebox, flash your rom then reinsert it in....
As for the WD HDD, yes they work, I have been using them on some of my units as well.
But if you are going to upgrade, I recommend Strongbolt from Osoffice www.osoffice.co.uk, its 35 pounds for a license but well worth it. You may need to flash your rom as well for this.
Just a quick note. My issues were from an incompatible NIC. I had a 3C905B-TXMN put in the linksys card and it went flawlessly. Now to find the best OS for the server. I am considering the StrongBolt. Thanks for all you information.
We are running RaQ servers with strongbolt (CentOS 4.4 w/BlueQuartz), running OK! We did have to modify /etc/yum.repos.d, install mysql-server and install some rpms from NuONce Networks to get all the latest BlueQuartz functions working.
We also found that running the server with K6-III+/450ACZ CPU and 1GB RAM significantly improved performance. The K6-III+/450ACZ has 256KB cache which REALLY affects performance, the 1GB RAM also gives a boost!
