I have an Athlon 3400+ which was on stock, ****** Gateway cooling, it crashed frequently so I removed the side panel and stuck a table fan there which significantly reduced the problem, but it still occurs. If I have LimeWire, AIM and Mozilla running without the fan on it will almost definitely crash, with the fan on it crashes occasionally, if I have Photoshop open then it probably will.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced problems with this, I wouldn't think this processor would run particulary hot, and the fact that it still manages to crash this much with a table fan on it seems a bit odd to me. (I'm assuming it's overheating, I haven't actually monitored the temperature, but just basing it on the fact that it crashes much more frequently with the fan off I came to that conclusion.)
Definitely get monitoring software to at least see if this is the problem
Don't run without the fan....Just not a great idea
Take the heatsink off and clean it and reapply the thermal paste - use high quality stuff and when you put it back on, make sure that it's making good contact with the processor.....Sometimes they're a bit tricky ((*&@#$& intels)
that board comes with CPU core temperature, chassis temperature, CPU fan tachometer, system voltage, CPU core voltage, north bridge fan tachometer. do you have the original mobo cd with drivers on it? it should have a utility to monitor the temps.
