    Whois Guard for .us

Can someone explain to this newbie why (both legally, and morally (if applicable)) we can't get whois guard for .us extensions? Thanks

.US has made a dramatic change in their policy saying (in part): “The United States Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration ("NTIA") has recently completed its review of "proxy" or anonymous domain registration services by .us Accredited Registrars. At the conclusion of this review, NTIA directed NeuStar to phase out the offering of such services by Registrars or by any of its partners or resellers and to ensure that complete and accurate WHOIS data is provided for any existing registrations in .us.” Although we disagree with this policy, we will comply and will require our clients to make the necessary changes. Therefore, we will prohibit the offering of our ID Protect or similar services to .US registrations. This policy takes effect immediately and ONLY applies to .US registrations. The service will continue to be provided for existing .us ID protect customers until their ID protect expiration date or January 26, 2006, whichever comes first.

With whois privacy it would easier for foreigners to fradulently get .US domains.

ene gave the answer. Unlike CNO, country code registry operators input policies
    as they see fit.

If you don't like it, then go for the one who demanded it: the NTIA.

Nobody can give a moral answer because it's subjective.

Yes, of course!. Having foreigners in the .us domain space must be one of the greatest threats to national security ever, and the most effective way to avert this major threat is, of course, to ban Whois protection.

It doesn't make any sense to ban WHOIS guard, based on foreigners.

After all, most registrars have things in place to ensure that .eu domains are purchased only by those in the european union. That wouldn't stop someone from buying a domain FOR an American, just like nothing can stop an American from buying a domain FOR someone else, and it'll all happen with or without whois protection.

There are many valid reasons for whois protection, and for them to block it from the .us TLD is just inane.
