Opinion on Godaddy.com dedicated servers..
Hello guys.. This would be my first post! but anyway, I am new to dedicated server scene and I usually look at the price before what they offered.. anyhow, godaddy.com's dedicated server catched my attention because of their price for what they offered.. I've got P4 with 3.0ghz and 130GB HD X 1, 2.0GB of RAM at about $150 without no setup fee. Why are they so cheap compare to others? If I match others with same performance It easily goes over $200 with cPanel whatever... Is it because godaddy isn't managed? Can you guys explain the difference?

Well, I've not bought hosting from them but from what I heard, GoDaddy should only stick to domain names, their hosting services isn't up to the same mark as the better players in the market.

I agree, I've only heard bad things about GoDaddy's hosting. Plus with their support taking as long as it usually does I wouldn't want to have a dedicated box in their hands.

You could get that for around $110 actually or even less. P4 3.0 are now old since everyone is offering Pentium D these days so $150 sounds quite high price for that.

Yeah thats not that great of a deal...
layeredtech.com has an athlon64 4000+ 1GB of RAM, 160GB HDD for $129/month which is a much more powerful box, add a GB of RAM and it'd be about the same price.
But thats actually a good dedicated server company.

In my experience, I wouldn't use them for domain names. They've got their place, but it definately isn't for domains that you count on for business.

Well, since you are already signed up with Godaddy, stick with them for a month or so and see if what you see is what you like. Who knows, it may be something which meet your needs. Come back in a month and post your review.

I guess probably that's why they are offering unmanaged servers because they do not need to know anything about the software installed.
What you can do is create a PHP Info Page and see if Zend Optimizer is installed, if it is not, you can do so yourself.
Signing up for a year in advance is a big no-no. Never do it unless you know them very intimately.

Never commit to a year. and as for zend optimizer, a good tech should be able to assist you with that without fail. Since it is unmanaged, however, they may not have the tech available to do or answer questions like that.
