If you do file hosting, you just need a low-end server with unmetered budget bw.

You think unmetered is the way togo, or just get 1000Gb?

1000GB won't last long depending how popular you plan on being.
I wouldn't just use a low end server like ServerVina suggested either.

However, there will be more then 1 server, it will be put out through many servers. They also have a max GB set inside the script so it distributes everything.

For 10Mbps, 20Mbps unmetered port, and do file hosting, I think a low-end server (Celeron, Sempron) with 1GB Memory is fined !

If you are planning on going big, you'll need ample disk space and bandwidth. That being said, getting a decent spec machine with a few hard drives in a raid array isn't necessairly a bad idea and will go a long way for you (both in data protection and ability to scale).

You'll want to start out with something like a P4 with anywhere from 2-6 x 500gb SATA's in some sort of RAID array (depending on your priorities) with a 10-20mbps unmetered link. Then expand as needed -- make sure you optimize the server thoroughly beforehand, you'll get a major performance boost.
Just a reminder: So many of these sites start up and disappear or just make nothing for their owners. Make sure you think about this before continuing when there are giants like Megaupload and Rapidshare around

How much storage do you need?
What kind of bandwidth monthly?
Server specs?

Like I said, I can limit the space and bandwidth per server. Which makes it easier to get lower quality servers
