    Question about linux box

We are setting up our first colo Linux box using centos 4.4 since we have usually worked with windows. Wondered if there was anything different in the settings.

We plan on using plesk control panel running 3 oscommerce stores and one forums

    This is the configuration

    Super Micro 6015B-3V server

    2 - Woodcrest 5130 Dual

    4gigs memory

    SuperMicro ZCR card with 256mg

    4 – Hitchi 74 gig 15K SAS Drive

As we told you we will be running Centos 4.4 and we never setup a linux box before. So I have a couple questions.

    1) Should we configure this in 64bit or 32bit?

    2) Should we set this up in a RAID 10 4 drives or RAID 5 3 drives + 1hotspare for best performance and security?

    3) The SAS card for best performance on Centos what should the below settings be?

    Stripe size?

Read Caching - Yes or no

Write Caching - Enable Always or Enable with battery or disable ??/

    Thanks for any advice

Depends what Control Panel you will be using, but 32-bit is generally the better option. I know cPanel has a lot of issues with 64-bit Linux.

    32bit

    I'd try to go with RAID 5 + 1 or RAID6.
What type of RAID controller are you using and does it have a battery?

    We are using a Supermicro Low-Profile All-in-One Zero-Channel RAID Card (AOC-LPZCR2)
