    Who does PRO-ACTIVE server management?

I've read a ton of threads about the different server management companies, and all the rants/praises about how long it takes to response to tickets, etc. Well, what I'd really like is to not even need to submit a ticket. I want a server management company that knows my server is having trouble before I know it, and logs in to fix it without waiting for me to tell them to fix it. I mean, what's the point of having a server management company boasting 24/7 if they need you to submit a ticket to fix your server? Same thing with the OS upgrades, and whatever other software. Just friggen upgrade it, don't wait till I ask. I don't want to sit around all day wondering if CentOS put out a new patch, or I've gotta put in the security upgrade to PHP, or whatever. In the time it takes me to remember how to log in to submit a ticket, I may as well just do the job myself. The essences is, I'm looking for a service that is going to save me time. I don't run a hosting company, but do have multiple servers, just host my own sites and a few friends' sites.

For proactive management, you might want to check out:

http://www.serverwizards.com (I used them a couple years ago and they were great, but pricy)
http://www.angelnetworkz.net (I have used them within the past year and they are GREAT too -- so no comments)

I would strongly suggest anyone considering angelnetworkz - to do a search on them first. Their history is so so so bad - you should reconsider the prospect a few times before actually doing it.

All the companies that do proactive server management - do as you say their upgrades on time and as soon as an update is out. However, that still does not mean that they would be able to find all the problems before they happen. Sometimes their automated methods to check if your site is up - will show it is up. What it won't detect is that it's showing a can't connect to mysql error message. So you would still need to put in a ticket.

I'm not trying to turn this into another AN thread. BUT -- I have to give Donna credit for making an attempt to make things right.

Well, in this business you barely get one chance to make a good impression. Squandering it three times is a very bad sign for any company. So if someone is choosing them, they should be aware of the history behind that company. You recommended them - I told people to search about their name in the forums before they consider them.

    Off Topic rant

People only deserve so many chances.

Besides has anyone ever really fond out if there is a Donna? Last I heard no one still had an address no one still had ever talked to her and no one still has seen a pic other than that one where she looked half drunk. Is she still off in Iraq being a fighter pilot? I mean there are only so many lies and fabircations that one can make up then go belly up on people twice, somewhere people have to say you are nuts.

No back on Topic rant off.

There are many companies that will do that for you but YOU have to tell them that is what you want upfront so they know and are clear on it. Some dedicated clients don't want you to touch their server unless they ask you to, others want everything done and only update if their are problems.

Ask around you will find most management companies will do the level you ask for as long as you are willing to pay for it.

I had good experience with acunett, but you I suggest you to do a search of every company that you think on hiring and make your own choice

    Good luck!

In your search for management companies, it is important to remember that your new management company not only needs to talk a good talk...but ask them how they plan to "forecast" that you might be having a problem. Do they use monitoring software? Do they just monitor ports? Do they run an agent on the OS to report back things such as memory utilization and serverload? If the answer to all 3 questions is yes...you atleast have the beginnings of a PROACTIVE management arrangement.

    Greetings:

    1. You should mention operating systems and automation systems involved as that can be an impact for who is recommended.

    2. Proactive is easy if you, yourself, do not go in with root access; and becomes hard if there are multiple parties with root access to the servers.

    Thank you.

Ummm...yea....right---what planet are you living on?

Don't take that personal---you just obviously are not one of the companies or clients that she (if she is a she) has screwed over in the past.

I assure you, she has made no attempt to "make things right" in regards to her outstanding debt to our firm.

I would have to recommend www.got-management.com here. We've been using them for 2 years now and their support is proactive, truly. Contact Jon. They are pricey but it's well worth it. You won't get proactive management for $29/mo.
