I am looking into ways to backing up that would be easier to restore in case of an outbreak or server crash.
If I backup the following
In case the HDD fails, getting the backup and over writing the fresh install would bring the server back to the original state before a crash right?
What I am concern about is the things like shadow, groups, emails and mysql. Because all passwords are encrypted, does it mean that the sequence of decrypt would be different on each restore or would they be the same?
Also would symbolic links still retain their linkages?
I have several several that run DA which I use their provided backup options.
The rest are base CentOS installations so I was thinking of programming a script that backs up the needed files and then overwrite when or if the server crashes.
Currently I backup my sites individually and in the event of a crash... I reload individually as well...
