Well '0' means unlimited and we all know there is no such thing.
Set it to '500' and you should be fine.

Okay thanks... I was just confused because the Apache website said default "0"... I guess they mean that's for Windows...
500 is fairly small, unless you somehow manage to leak memory. A lot of people use 0 or a high number like 10000.
The only reason for children to have to exit is there is some resource leakage that needs cleaning up.
