offering .net to the .com owner

I have a nice single word 9 letter (no numbers or characters) .net domain I have had since 1998

the .com owner has had theirs since 1997 (according to domaintools0

Their website claims they are a $1.6 million per year network services company

I've never done much with the domain, it has neither good nor bad associations, mostly i've used it to point to another domain publicly, and behind that I use it for development testing and a personal non public blog.

So what is the best way to contact the .com owner and offer it for sale. Should I request an offer from them?

Should I pay to have the name appraised before contacting the owner of .com? What is a reputable domain appraisal service?

.org is for sale on buydomains.com with no price listed
    .biz is parked

I'm a bit leary of posting it publicly here, (but I don't really have a good reason why... just paranoid I guess) but would consider PM to a knowledgeable user here on WHT.

domain is registered through 2010, so I'm in no danger of expiry or anything like that. Just wondering if I can make some $$ from it.

Well, the Domain Names Advertising forums seem to be deserted places in WHT. And I honestly question their raison-d'être.

If I was you, before hiring an appraisal specialist, I would first post "my case" in a specialty forum, such as (there are others):

    - NamePros.com
    - DiscussNames.com
    - DNforum.com
    - DomainState.com
    - DomainnameTalk.com (WHT little brother)

    Good luck.

You can even run a non binding auction at www.sitepoint.com to see how people over there value it in real dollars.
