My full tank (40 gallons) only gets me 300 miles : /

Im really happy that the prices are dropping really fast. I used to pay about $130-135 ($3.37/gallon) to fill up my tank (from extreme empty like running on fumes empty) every Friday, and now it only takes $100 ($2.67/gallon)

Randy, that is still a lot of money. Why not get a more economical car?

So that means I pay almost twice as much for a full tank and still only get 400 miles per tank... great...

I filled up on Monday, I've done 2 off-site support calls this week and now have half a tank left. Will have to refill again by Friday I would of thought.

Just glad I'm not always driving the van we sometimes use. That costs about £100 ($180) for a full tank!

    A couple reasons : /

    1.It was a gift
2.I'm getting it sponsored so its going to be a show car soon
3.I'm going to be getting one soon because I cant drive my show car :p
4.I don't have a job right now and my parents will not help pay for a new car especially the insurance.

I had to get brakes, oil change, etc on my car monday... it gets 24 city, 34 hwy....

They provided me with a SUV... they had to keep my car overnight because of some guy that needed his car that day... did not bother me, I mean, I had a free dealer vehicle, I was good. But I had to drive about 40 miles... those SUVs suck gas! I was in shock as I watched the gas hand. I didn't even have the air conditioner on...

The petroleum market controls the price of crude, and what we're seeing is the speculative fluff leaving as the summer driving season ends, no major hurricanes have done anything, stockpiles are up, and the economy is cooling.

    Simple as that.

Our city has a website with gas prices that people report,
    http://bakersfieldgasprices.com/
Cheapest is $2.47/gallon right now, AND WE'RE SITTING ON THE DANG REFINERIES!

Sigh, I think we should be the cheapest, but whatever.

We've got one too but I really doubt how "legit" and "current" it is.

What other expenses are there for drivers in the USA?

For example here I have to pay £125 a year in tax, £520 a year for insurance, £160 a year for a service and something like £80 a year for breakdown cover.

We only have a few roads which have tolls (I can only think of 2). There is a "Congestion Charge" for Central London as well but I tend to avoid driving in London as much as possible anyway!

Do you guys have to pay extra in other ways to cover costs? Petrol prices are so low there I can't work out where th money to pay for things like signs, lighting and the roads themselves!

    $108/year "tax" aka registration fees.
    $2,640/year insurance

Here in California (at least here) theres 18 cents/gallon federal tax, and 18 state tax.

Do you have many toll roads? I've only ever been to Florida and between the airport and our villa I think we had 2 or 3 tolls to pay. Not that much, but if you did it everyday for work it would soon build up!

Also just to confirm my insurance is fully comp as well, not 3rd party.

We dont have any toll roads around here, but there is some toll road things on the freeway (like an express lane but you need to pay to get in it.) The sucky part is, the freeway its on (91) is about 6 lanes, 2-3 used by the toll road.

$25/yr registration and a bit less than $2000/yr for full coverage insurance. Car insurance has got to be the biggest scam in the world .. until you need it.

Ouch that California insurance is expensive, I am 23 and have the "under 25 rip off insurance"

As for Florida, when I was there it has tolld roads EVERYWHERE around the east coast, I don't think the west coast is too bad.
Texas has better roads than Florida overall and only a few in the major metro area are toll, and most of those are only around airports.
