How much bandwidth do I need?
I'm relatively new to the web-hosting scene. I used to have a website years back, but everything is so different now and I just want to ask a few questions.
I am going to start up a website that lets users post stories and attach a few pictures to them (I won't go into the details). There will also be forums and a few other areas to the site.
I'm not sure how much bandwidth that I should go for. I was thinking about around 50-75GB a month, would that be sufficient?
Also, I'm not really sure where to look for hosting. I'm thinking about hostgator, they seem to have reasonable prices and definetely aren't overselling.
I dont know about your site but I can tell you this:
most sites dont even use 500MB/month bandwith
Yes, as hcn said, it would be unusual to open your site and be transferring that much data at the get-go. HG's "Hatchling" plan should serve you well, and then you can step up later if/when you need to.

I wouldn't say that little, but plan for no more than 5GB a month for your first 6 months. Rarely do sites ever hit more than this.
