i'm lost, what should I take ?

I mainly run joomla and vbulletin.
so far I have cpanel with site5. no wonder, I want to quit site5 asap.
I think solarvps is good (ping=60ms, I am in France). not bad reviews here. I want strong backup feature, in case I do something stupid. And I will -)
but what should I take ? I don't know linux.
what is the best ? debian ? fedora ? centos ? or windows ???
cpanel or plesk 8 ? fantastico is nice, but I am able to install any php software if needed, no problem. just don't ask to programm an sql backup or a cron.
256MB ram or 512 ?
you can see my site at lafactory.com
anyway I will take a managed account.
Help ! -)

Salut !

Il est très sympa ton site, pleins d'articles agréable a lire. J'ai bien aprécié celui sur Sarko!

Appart from that (french) remark about your site (I couldn't control myself on this one, as I'm french too...), I think you need to tell about how much visitor a day you have on your site so we can evaluate you memory and network needs. If you nave only that joomla site, I'm almost sure that 256MB of RAM should be enough.

Just one hint: don't take a windows VPS, it will cost you too much and will bring troubles.

Thomas

Most managed VPS's seem to use CentOS.

web hosting.

Hi Thomas, thanks. I checked your site even before you answer me but I did not see free slots in france. If I'm wrong, maybe we could help each other ? I don't know if you can pm me (I can't, too new here I guess) but you can send me a mail to frozange at msn.com
I use less than 10GB BW/month. Mainly I want speed because as you can see it I have many articles displayed on my website.

best regards,

Not true. Most VPS providers uses Virtuozzo and CentOS because it's easy to use and they are lame. IMHO Debian and Xen is a lot better, but needs more technical knowledge maybe.

LOL?

Debian is hard? Xen requires more technical knowledge? I could say the same about windows for someone that doesn't use it.

I assume your just joking.
