Thanks for your replies! I've got a feeling that my level of knowledge is way off what's needed to be able to personalise it how I'd like to.
I tried viewing the style sheets (CSS) through DreamWeaver but it was all HTML and I couldn't view it in design mode. It's been years since I did stuff in pure HTML and I was no good at it even then! Maybe I need to learn something about StyleSheets because as of now, I know absolutely nothing.
On a general note, CubeCart admin is way easier to use than ZenCart admin but Cube seems a lot more simple from a customer point of view anyway. Zen seems to offer more but I'm not sure how much of it I may need. I'm having problems with getting OSCommerce going so I don't know about it although I expect it's similar to ZenCart.
Zen Cart is a fork of the OSCommerce project - when I looked into OSCommerce, it was basically unchanged over the past two years. Zen-Cart picked up and moved forward from where OS Commerce left off.
The templating system is a little hard to get used to - you don't install a template like in Joomla or something - but rather you use the default files and then put any edits you make in an "override" folder. But it's not even that necessary to do that.
Truth of the matter is I've designed Zen-Cart templates using nothing more than CSS and background images, and it looks great. Zen-cart just released a tableless template with their new version - 1.3.5 - so there's no real need to edit the template. Just fool around with the CSS and go.
I'm trying out CubeCart / ZenCart / OSCommerce and was wondering how easy or hard it is to peronsalise them or makes skins (I'm not totally sure what a skin is ).
We used osCommerce for some of our projects and I must say that it's very difficult to customize. Everytime you change the design of your web site you should hack shopping cart codes. It is not so convenient and requires a lot of time...
It take a while to learn the Zen Cart template, but the 1.3 templates were very well designed and you can do a lot of customization. I like the templates, it's fairly easy to do once you get in there and learn a bit.
