    Hello,

most windows hosting providers can accomodate php on windows. However, $60/year is quite a low budget for hosting, let alone for windows hosting.

You might also find Windows based web hosts charging a little more for the use of PHP.

anyone? he doesn't need much space.. maybe 100mb at the most... they're a legal staffing firm and its basically just a content driven site.. no databases, etc... I talked to them and they want something under about $70 now... so that gives us about $20 extra to work with

You will have a tough time finding reliable hosting for $70 a year, Windows servers are a little more costly due to licensing.

What kind of support would you like to have? What about uptime?

Need pretty good uptime.. atleast 99.5%.. as far as why they are wanting to go with a Windows server is beyond me... they told me they're going to be setting something up on your site that requires windows hosting (dont ask hah) - I would like the datacenter to be US based.

99.5% shouldn't be hard to find as everyone seems to advertise 99.9%, just make sure the host can prove the uptime -- as many can't. I would still recommend your to raise your budget to about $100/yr if you want a reliable host with excellent support.

    Oh, and why not?
#1 - There is absolutely no difference between PHP on linux and Windows
#2 - Performance is similar, Windows actually has an upside vs linux because it allows the website to have its own process, therefor not affecting any other websites in case of a crash.

Could you explain please to me in a professional way why you don't suggest Windows Hosting? Did you have any problems with it? If yes, share them with us.

I think some people believe PHP should stay with linux only

Personally i have used PHP on windows for many many years, and recently linux. I have found both of them to be as good as each other in my opinion.

The only DOWNSIDE is that you have to pay for Windows and the extra premiums/licenses which come with it.

We run enterprise, but yes -- it is cheap. Just like most things you pay for, its usually better than the free stuff (aka nix vs windows).

It depends on what your using it for, but Windows can do it all.

Linux on the other hand can't. I.E ASP/ASP.net etc.

With regards to licensing, you have to pay per CPU as well

It makes absolutely no difference the amount of cores the server has, Dual-Core is not 2 processors and you only pay licensing per physical processor.

    Yea that'd be stupid.

Some people have servers which operate 32 threads or 32 two "CPUs" at once.

The licensing for that would be insane.

Therefore, it's defined by PHYSICAL CPUs, not theory or software.

Besides, if I wasn't an ASP.net developer, I'd just use Linux
